The end of Maule Clocks?
You may ask: 'What happened to the Maule family business of watch and clockmaking?' Cheaper imports and the Wars, in which two of James' sons were killed (my Uncle Sid, WW1 on 3 April 1916 and my Uncle Stan, WW2-Corporal Stanley Maule, Royal Engineers & No.4 Commando, on 6 June 1944) ensured no further apprenticeships within this Maule Clan. Also my Dad Harry had been away from home for almost 11 years, serving with the 'Regular' Army in Alex (Egypt), China & India up until a few years before the outbreak of the Second World War! But hold on.. I'm here. I can't repair a watch or make a clock - that's the missing link - so I'm doing the next best thing, talking and writing about it and only time itself will reveal where that may lead.
UPDATE: *(2008) Nancie Forster moved to the Old Vicarage Care Home in Wooler and died aged 86 on 20th January. Amazingly she never lost her enthusiastic interest in clockmaking.
NEW ADDITION: *(2013) An 'unexpected' item has been added to the Maule collection - a banjo-style 4-compartment barometer. The 5th section bears the silver engraved name-plate of I.Maule, Wooler. The story covered by local and international press included before & after restoration photos.
